I have a RAID a good size home and I’m spinning two disks of 1 TB for backup, but I needed a safe place to store the unit unused. I could have led to work and stored in the data center, But it has some problems – 1) not at hand when needed 2) other people have access 3) allows carrying around for more opportunities to drop or Com abuse unit. Window lock cheap # 2 would solve, but I do not want to do with # 1 or # 3.

I selected the Honeywell 2040 safe because it is rated UL 125, which means that it maintains an internal temperature of 52C for one hour. Anything higher and The Platters will probably crystallize drive, destroying the unity and make the data inaccessible. Most hard disks have storage temperatures from-40C to 70C permissible, often flash-20C to 70/80C, and CD and DVD are from -40 to 70C. A UL-150 should maintain an internal temperature of 66C, but not recommended for magnetic media, only microfilm / fiche or other films.

Sentry Safe has a great selection and Most of what I watched were noted as being suitable for various computer storage media like CDs and DVDs, including some that have a USB port, you can use your device while in the safe, but only two models (in 1710, 6720 ) were actually appropriate for computer support. I liked their prices and selection, but it was a bit annoyed ‘with vague and misleading information on their website. Do not believe me? Download the 1710 manual and look for the UL rating and their appropriate note on the safe storage “of computers and audio / visual media. Most of them are safe UL-350, which is 177C, and particularly for paper documents, certainly well beyond the maximum storage temperature of hard disks, flash and CD / DVD.
< br /> Safe Honeywell is big and heavy (awkward to carry), and the price is certainly up there. I prefer not to have spent $ 170 in a safe, but is well worth it if the safe is ever tested (hope not) and my data survives.
