This is a beautiful design, great sound for a small group, fitting that it plays radio, CD, iPod, etc. and love that can be hung on the wall – nice and discreet one bedroom.

But! I bought this to replace a CD / clock radio alarm unit, and wanted to know that this unit does not display the time! You can use the remote to display the time, and will momentarily display the time when you turn it on, but once you stopped listening, i. e. transformed the unit, there is no time display, which means you can not use it to see the time in the middle of the night / early mornings. This seems a huge oversight by Panasonic design – even more portable models 20-30 years routinely display the time.
In addition, Panasonic’s customer service can not tell me how to turn the alarm off if I want to sleep ! This seems like it should be easy to understand from the manual, or an easy question to answer for a technical representative, but no. . . . 30 minutes on the phone, then disconnected and unanswered. I am a university professor and I’m pretty good at reading English, and the manual does not contain this basic information. Still deciding whether to return or not (I bought elsewhere). Maybe someone out there understand?

For the money the Panasonic SC-HC30 is a very good purchase. The sound is very sharp and clear. What I particularly liked was I could be wall mounted with ease. The iPod dock assembly is a very nice feature. My children how to play their iPod and use it to play my CD.
